HIS STORY

In 2013, we launched ZeKenetic Foundation™ after a suggestion from Randy Pobst, racing driver and journalist for Motor Trend magazine.

At that time, Zeke wanted to buy Randy’s retired K-PAX Volvo race car and adapt it for him. Randy said it might be easier to get it as a donation if Zeke had a non-profit organization. A few months later, ZeKenetic Foundation™ was an approved 501(c)(3) organization. Sadly, K-PAX Racing never donated the car.

Instead, Zeke bought an M3 and converted it to a school car to teach other wheelchair users how to drive on the race track.

During 2020, amidst the COVID-19 Pandemic, Zeke shifted his focus to building adapted simulators to provide advanced driver training and track driving preparation. ZeKenetic Foundation™ acquired and donated two sims built by SimPRO Simulators with help from Matthew Fuhr and donations by many generous supporters.

The driving force behind ZeKenetic Foundation™ is Zeke Massie, a retired Marine and T5 paraplegic well-known for his highly modified street and track cars. After a motorcycle accident in 1994 left him paralyzed from the chest down, Zeke developed an affinity for Volvo automobiles due to their safety and cargo space. A Volvo Wagon could easily accommodate his daily wheelchair, sports chair, and hand cycle. He was impressed with their handling, power, and reliability. He started “collecting” them, including a rare yellow 1995 T5R and a 1996 850R, which he used in SCCA autocrossing.

Decades of HPDE track driving gave Zeke a reputation as a smooth, consistent, and capable high-performance driver. Since his early days of track driving, he has brought many wheelchair users to track day events to share his passion. He wanted to show them that life continues after a life-altering injury and that wheelchair users can still safely participate in adrenaline-based activities.

Through the years, he has used his expertise to create fast and reliable track cars such as a Volvo S60R, BMW M3, and, most recently, a Tesla Model 3 Performance, all outfitted with hand controls, both manual and electronic.
